In the US, that's done all the time. Do NOT CXL with your old provider. Tell your new phone co that you want to bring your existing number to the new company and they will make it happen in couple of days. DO NOT cxl with old company till the change happens. If you cxl before the changeover, the number can't be moved. I dunno the process in other countries, but I'd start by asking the new ph co if / how it's done where you are.
