"Clear App Cache / Data" is application-specific (for the selected app)

"Wipe the Cache Partition" is for the smartphone's entire cache partition.

    Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: In case one of your applications doesn’t work as intended; crashes, freezes, or takes up too much storage inexplicably, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! Clearing an app’s data will remove all the personal information stored within the app, including profiles, saved games, login and credit card information, high scores, settings etc. As such, to avoid losing personal data, try clearing only the app’s cache.

    1. Go to “Settings”
    2. Scroll to “Device”
    3. Tap “Applications”
    4. Tap “Application manager”
    5. Swipe to “All” or “Downloaded”
    6. Select the desired app
    7. Tap “Clear cache”
    8. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (read WARNING above)

    Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone isn’t working correctly and you’re considering master resetting it, you can first try to clear the device’s cache partition instead. This can solve numerous issues without having to factory reset the device. To wipe the cache:

    1. First, turn off the smartphone
    2. Next, press and hold “Volume Up”, “Power” and “Home”
    3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power”
    4. At the “Android” logo, release all hardware keys and wait for the Recovery menu to appear
    5. From the Android System Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “wipe cache partition”
    6. Press “Power” to confirm
    7. After the cache is wiped, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
    8. Press “Power” to confirm and restart your device

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, alternatively you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot in Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: In case you have installed a third party application that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. To access this mode:

    1. First, turn off the phone
    2. Press and hold “Power”
    3. At the “Samsung” logo, release “Power” and immediately press and hold “Volume down” instead
    4. Continue holding “Volume Down” until the phone finishes rebooting. Once done, a “Safe Mode” label should be visible in the lower-left corner of the screen
    5. Next, open the apps drawer and go to “Settings”
    6. Tap “Applications” under “Device”
    7. Tap “Application manager”
    8. Swipe to “Downloaded” and select the desired app
    9. Tap “Uninstall” > “Uninstall” to confirm
    10. To exit safe mode, simply press and hold “Power” and tap “Restart”
