WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all personal data stored on the internal memory will be deleted, including media files, downloaded content, apps, contacts etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data stored on the SD and SIM card will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you master reset the Samsung Galaxy J1 Nxt, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can back up data, or this thread for a guide on how to restore data.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Access “Settings”
    3. Under “Personal”, tap “Backup and reset”
    4. Optionally you can enable or disable “Restore” and “Back up my data”
    5. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device”
    6. In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter the necessary PIN / password to proceed
    7. Tap “Continue” > “Delete all”

    Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case you are unable to factory reset the phone via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the device from the Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of hardware button presses.

    1. First, turn off the device
    2. Then, press and hold “Home”, “Volume Up”, and “Power” at the same time
    3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release “Power”
    4. At the “Android” logo, release “Volume Up” and “Home” too
    5. From the “Android system recovery” menu, use “Volume down” to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data / factory reset”
    6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    7. Next, press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes – delete all user data”
    8. Press “Power” to confirm
    9. When prompted, reboot your phone in normal mode

    Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After factory resetting the phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Go to “Settings”
    3. Under “System”, tap “About device”
    4. Verify if a new OS version is available. If yes, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
