Actually you can add. Just connect the s7 edge to a computer, select device storage, look for notification folder and add there,

    Or

Download the files through your s7, go to the Samsung app folder, select my files app. . Locate the folder where you download the new sounds. Select all of the sounds you want
    Select move or copy option
    Select device storage
    Select notification folder
    Paste/move your sound files there.
Your done. Now you can select them. No rooting is needed
So far I've used MP3 and M4A files with no issues

Unfortunately, it seems that unless you have rooted your Galaxy S7 Edge, you cannot add custom audio files as notifications (( I wonder why they don't have "+add a file" to the notifications, like they do in the ringtones!

Transfer Audio Files from a Windows Computer:

    1. Establish a USB connection between the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and computer
    2. On the home screen, drag the “Status” bar down
    3. Tap “Connected as a media device” and enable “Media device (MTP)”
    4. Launch the File Explorer on the computer and locate the desired audio files on your PC storage
    5. Copy the files and paste them on the phone storage, preferably in the “Ringtones” / “Notification” folder(s)
    6. Once the transfer is done, eject the phone storage via system tray
    7. Safely disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Transfer Audio Files from a Mac Computer:

NOTE: If Samsung Kies is already installed on your Mac, skip the first 3 steps below.

    1. Launch the Internet browser on the Mac
    2. Head down to Kies Support
    3. Click “Kies 3 for Mac” and install the app on the Mac
    4. Once Kies is installed, connect the Galaxy S7 Edge to your Mac via USB
    5. Drag the “Status” bar down and turn on “Media device (MTP)”
    6. Open Kies on the Mac and click the “Folder” icon associated with “Internal memory” or “External memory”
    7. Launch the file explorer on the Mac and locate the desired audio files
    8. Drag the files and drop them in Kies
    9. Once the transfer is done, eject the Galaxy S7 Edge’s storage by dragging its virtual drive from the desktop into the “trash can” and disconnect the phone from the USB cord

Add Audio Files to the Ringtone List:

    1. On the home screen, tap “Apps”
    2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
    3. Tap “Sounds and notifications”
    4. Under “Sound”, tap “Ringtones and sounds”
    5. Tap “Ringtone” > “Add ringtone”
    6. Select “Sound picker” and choose to use the option “Always” or “Just once”
    7. Select the audio files you want to use for ringtones and tap “Done”

    Change the General Ringtone:

    1. Access the phone’s “Settings” menu
    2. Under “Device”, tap “Sounds & notifications”
    3. Tap “Ringtones & sounds” under “Sound”
    4. Tap “Ringtone”
    5. Select the desired ringtone
    6. Tap “Back” to save

    Change a Contact’s Ringtone:

    1. Launch “Contacts”
    2. Select the desired contact
    3. Tap “Edit” > “Ringtone”
    4. Select the desired ringtone and tap “OK”
    5. Tap “Save”

    Change the Notification Sound:

    1. Access the phone’s “Settings” menu
    2. Under “Device”, tap “Sounds & Notifications”
    3. Go to “Ringtones and sounds”
    4. Select a notification type, and choose a notification sound
    5. Tap “Back” to save the changes
