WARNING! By factory resetting your phone, all personal data stored on the device’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes applications, contacts, downloaded content, ringtones etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be deleted during the factory reset. Before resetting the phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can back up and restore data.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Personal”
    3. Tap “Backup and reset”
    4. Optionally, enable or disable “Back up my data” and “Restore”
    5. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device”
    6. In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN to proceed and tap “Continue”
    7. Tap “Delete all” to confirm

    Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise doesn’t allow you to reset it via Settings, you can try resetting the device from the Android System Recovery menu instead. The menu can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as follows:

    1. First, make sure the phone is powered off
    2. Next, press and hold “Power”, “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time
    3. When the “Samsung” logo appears, release the “Power” key
    4. At the “Android” logo, release “Volume Up” and “Home” too
    5. Wait for the Recovery menu to show up (it may take up to 60 seconds)
    6. From the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data / factory reset”
    7. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    8. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power” to confirm
    9. After the phone finishes the reset, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
    10. Press “Power” again to confirm and restart your phone

    Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Launch “Settings”
    3. Scroll to and tap “About device”
    4. Verify the software and if a new update is available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
