WARNING! When factory resetting a smartphone, all your personal data located on the device’s internal memory will be deleted, including media files and ringtones, apps, contacts, downloaded content etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: For instructions on how to back up and restore data before the reset, you can visit this thread. Note that data stored on the SIM and SD cards will not be deleted by the factory reset.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Launch “Settings”
    3. Tap “Cloud and accounts” > “Backup and reset”
    4. Optionally, set the “Back up my data” and “Restore” sliders to “ON” or “OFF”
    5. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device”
    6. In case your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password / PIN to proceed
    7. Tap “Continue” > “Delete all”

Factory Reset via Recovery (Hardware Keys):

NOTE: If you are unable to reset the phone via Settings, you can try resetting the phone via Recovery. The Android System Recovery menu can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses, as detailed below:

    1. First, turn off the phone
    2. Next, press and hold “Volume Up”, “Home” and “Power” buttons
    3. At the “Android” logo, release all buttons and wait for the Recovery menu to appear
    4. From the Recovery menu, navigate the options by pressing “Volume down” repeatedly, and highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
    5. Press “Power” to confirm the highlighted option
    6. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes – delete all user data”
    7. Press “Power” again to confirm
    8. Once the reset is done, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
    9. Press “Power” one last time to confirm and restart your device

    Check For Firmware Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to verify if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Go to “Settings”
    3. Scroll to and tap “About device”
    4. Check if a new update is available, and if necessary, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it (NOTE: This process will require you to reboot your phone)
