    Check the Amount of Space on the SD:

    1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
    2. Access "Settings" and go to "System"
    3. Tap "Storage"
    4. The "Available space" value and others are displayed under "SD Card"

    Format the SD Card:

    WARNING! Formatting the SD card will result in the deletion of all data stored on it. Before proceeding make sure you have backed up all your important data.

    1. Open the apps drawer and go to "Settings"
    2. Swipe to "System" and tap "Storage"
    3. Tap "Format SD Card" under "SD Card"
    4. Tap "Format SD Card" again for confirmation
    5. Press "Delete all"

    Open or Delete Files on the SD Card

    Using the Smartphone:

    1. Launch the "My Files" application
    2. Under "Local storage" tap "SD card"
    3. Tap the folder / file you wish to open or:
    4. To delete files, tap "SD memory card" > "Menu" > "Select"
    5. Check the boxes associated with the items you wish to delete
    6. Tap "Done" > "OK"

    Using a Windows Computer:

    1. Connect the Galaxy J1 to your computer via USB
    2. From the notification area, tap "USB Connected" > "Connect USB storage"
    3. In the AutoPlay window that should pop-up on the PC, click "Open folder to view files"
    4. Open the "Card" drive to access the SD card / external memory
    5. Double-click to open files / right-click > delete to remove them
    6. Once you're done sorting the files tap "Disconnect storage from PC"

    Using a Mac Computer:

    NOTE: The first 2 steps should be skipped if Samsung Kies is already installed on the Mac

    1. Launch the Internet browser on your Mac and visit Kies
    2. Click "Download for Mac OS" and follow any additional on-screen steps to complete the process
    3. Connect the Galaxy J1 to your Mac via USB
    4. From the notification area, tap "Connected as a media device" and check the "Media device" box
    5. Launch Kies and click the "Folder" icon associated with "External memory"
    6. Double-click an item to open it
    7. To remove a file, check the box next to it, click "Trash can" > "OK"
    8. When you're done, eject the phone's storage from the Mac and safely disconnect the device

    Transfer Files

    From the SD Card to the Internal Memory:

    1. Tap "Apps" from the home screen and launch "My Files"
    2. Swipe to "Local storage"
    3. Tap "SD card" > "SD memory card"
    4. Locate the files / folders you want to transfer and mark the check boxes next to them
    5. Press "Menu" and choose to "Move" or "Copy" the files
    6. Tap "Drive storage" and go to where you want to transfer the files
    7. Tap "Paste here" or "Move here"

    From the Internal Storage to the SD:

    1. Launch "My Files"
    2. Swipe to "Local storage" and tap "Device storage"
    3. Locate the files you want to transfer to the SD card
    4. Press "Menu" and select "Copy" or "Move"
    5. Tap "SD memory card" and navigate to the desired target directory
    6. Tap "Move here" or "Paste here"

    Set the Default Memory Location for Apps

    NOTE: Most pre-loaded applications use the phone's internal storage by default in order to store app data such as downloaded items, photos and so on. However most apps have the option to use the SD card as the default storage location instead.

    Camera App:

    1. Open "Camera"
    2. In the viewfinder tap "Settings"
    3. Go to "Storage" and select "Memory Card"

    Voice Recorder App:

    1. Launch "Voice recorder"
    2. Tap "Settings" > "Storage"
    3. Tap "Memory card"

    Internet App:

    1. Launch the "Internet" application
    2. Press "menu" > "Settings"
    3. Under "Advanced" tap "Content settings"
    4. Tap "Default storage" > "SD card"
