WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all your personal data stored on the device’s internal memory will be deleted, including ringtones and media files, contacts, apps, downloaded content etc. In addition, settings will be restored to factory values but data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.

NOTE: You can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data on the device before the reset, and this thread for instructions on how to restore data.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Launch “Settings”
    2. Scroll to “Personal”
    3. Tap “Backup & reset”
    4. Optionally, enable or disable “Automatic restore” and “Back up my data”
    5. Tap “Reset phone”
    6. If your phone is lock-screen protected, enter the PIN / password to proceed
    7. Optionally, choose whether to “Erase SD Card” too
    8. When ready, tap “OK”

    Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the device from the Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as follows:

    1. First make sure the phone is turned Off
    2. Then, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
    3. Once the phone vibrates, release “Power”
    4. At the “hTC download menu” release “volume down”
    5. Press “volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Reboot to bootloader”
    6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    7. Highlight “Boot to Recovery Mode” using the volume rocker and press “Power”
    8. At the “No Command” screen, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down”
    9. Release the buttons once in the recovery menu
    10. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe data / factory data reset”
    11. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    12. Highlight “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power”
    13. Once the phone is reset, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” one last time

    Check for Software Updates:

NOTE: It’s recommended to check if new software updates are available after the factory reset is complete. To do this:

    1. Open “Settings”
    2. Scroll to and tap “About”
    3. Tap “Software information”
    4. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update(s). NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot
