Clear an App’s Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably, or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache/data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles, save files, credit card and login information etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

1. Open “Settings”
2. Access “Apps”
3. Select the desired app
4. Go to “Storage” and tap “Clear cache”
5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, tap “Clear data” (check WARNING above)

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, runs out of storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering factory resetting it, you can try clearing the phone’s cache partition instead. This can lead to similar results as with a factory reset, without losing any personal data from the phone storage.

1. Make sure the phone is powered Off
2. Press and hold “Home” and “Volume Up” at the same time, then press and release “Power”
3. At the Android screen, release the buttons and wait for access to Android Recovery
4. Once in Recovery, navigate the menu by pressing “Volume down” and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset”
5. Press “Power”
6. Highlight “Wipe cache partition”
7. Press “Power” to confirm
8. Then, highlight “Yes” and press “Power” again
9. Finally, once done, ensure “Reboot system now” is highlighted and press “power” one last time

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party app causes problems and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default.

1. If necessary, turn the phone Off
2. Press and hold “Power”
3. At the “Samsung” screen, release “Power” and quickly press and hold “Volume down” instead
4. After the phone finishes rebooting, release the buttons. Note that a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
5. To remove an app, first open “Settings”
6. Then access “Apps”
7. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall”
8. Once done, you can exit Safe Mode by rebooting your device as you would normally do
