WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all your personal data on the device will be deleted, including media files, contacts, downloaded content, apps etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your device, you can check this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on restoring data.

    Factory Reset via Settings:

    1. Launch “Settings”
    2. Go to “Personal”
    3. Tap “Backup and reset”
    4. Optionally, turn “Back up my data” and “Restore” ON or OFF
    5. Tap “Factory data reset” > “Reset device”
    6. If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN/password and tap “Continue”
    7. Tap “Delete all” > “Reset device”

    Factory Reset via Android Recovery:

NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it using the method above, alternatively you can reset the device from the Android Recovery menu which can be accessed as follows:

    1. Turn the phone Off
    2. Press and hold “Power” “Volume Up” and “Home” simultaneously
    3. At the Samsung logo, release” Power”
    4. When the Android screen appears, release the other keys too
    5. Once in Recovery, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe data/factory reset”
    6. Press “Power” to select the option
    7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes – delete all user data”
    8. Press “Power” one last time to confirm

    Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you factory reset your phone, you can check if new OS updates are available for download.

    1. Open “Settings”
    2. Access “About device”
    3. Check if new updates are available
    4. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update (the update process will require you to reboot the phone at least once)
