The Nextel i90c does not NEED a cable to get ringers, but it is better. If you have a cable, you just pay a one time fee for the cable and then you can load the ringers yourself to the phone.

Or, if you don't have the cable you can purchase ringers for about $2 at Nextel.com and they will send it directly to your phone.

I am not sure about nextel, but I bought a data cable for my sanyo(sprint) from radioshack. Works well transfering ringtones.

The only website I saw that you could DL over the Air is the nextel site. Otherwise it looks like you should to get a data cable.

No, you don't HAVE to have a cable to download ringtones, if you want to pay for them. If you have a data cable and the necessary software, you can download ringtones for free. But all of the places I've found for sending the ringtones via SMS have been pay sites that usually cost about $2.00 USD per ringtone i.e. Nextel's website http://www.idenupdate.com/DRHM/servl...ategoryID=2003
