It will be free of charge if you are not using parallel good and the phone is still in warranty period.
You can just say that "I want to upgrade the firmware of my T610/T616". It will be fine.

Most of the times you have to pay to download the firmware and if you do it yourself, it's risky and something can go wrong. I don't think the waranty applies if you flashed your phone. And it's free if you still have your waranty.

Just a quick post to answer a few questions.

The firmware is the embedded software that makes your phone work.

SonyEricsson (SE) release buf fixes every now and again, some of these add additional functionality.

OFFICIALLY you can only get firmware upgraded at SE service centres, however, there are a number of solutions available on the web for acomplishing this yourself - if you are happy to risk losing your warranty.

As to whether you "need" to upgrade your warranty; if you are having problems then a firmware upgrade my help. Personally I try and keep my firmware up-to-date to avoid problems. BUT (and its a big but) occasionally firmware with problems is released, I therefore leave it a month before I get my firmware upgraded to check people aren't having problems.

    Hope this helps

Does it cost money to get it upgraded?
  • 11-06-2003, 10:01 PM
    yah.
    By the way,

the R1S001 firmware you guys are seeing is actually pretty new, its just t-mobiles version of it.

One bad thing about this is that you cannot use the firmware vesions that others are using, unless you flash it yourself, which will void your warranty.

    <-- new to this stuff.

Is R1A054 old or new? What are the benefits of getting new firmware? And should I go to the provider (Cingular) or Sony Ericsson to get it flashed?
