Also called MPEG-2 AAC or MPEG-2 NBC, this audio codec is the logical continuation of the MP3 codec created by Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. Due to advances in the technology, AAC files encoded at a 96 kbps bit rate sound slightly better than MP3s encoded at 128 kbps.
AAC format is probably slightly better than MP3 but it is bigger in file size. besides, MP3 format plays just as well in my Nokia 3300. quite impressive quality.

True Tones basically means any tones that sounds like true-to-life ringing tones like ambient sounds, DJ samples, riffs, sirens and alarms, funny greetings as well as nature and animal noises. It can be in AAC or MP3 format.

i think what nokia meant is that the phone can play .wav and .amr files as tones.. amr files are another type of compressed mp3 and trust me it doesnt sound good at all... not sure whether the 6600 can play aac files because then it will be counted as an music phone, since the 5510 (i think thats what its called) is the music phone that does that.... the nokia phones that play true tones are 3300, 6200, 6220 and 6600... 7650 and 3650 only play wavs and midis.... i think thats right!!

.mmf is the format that is used on samsung mobile phones, it is not compatible on nokias. they can have effective voice sounds but are not as good quality as true tones, i own a uk 3300 and you can use actual mp3s as ringtones, i am not sure if this is the case with the US versions

The only two I can think of are the Nokia 3300 and Nokia 6600. Probably some newer models coming out by the end of the year?

True tones are nice. No need 2 convert to midi tones. Some more u can hear the voice.. But the cons is every phone dun have bass effect. (Mayb the Vibrate function will help about this).
