I've been using the 1st generation Dell 17" LCD 's at school and they are very nice. The colors are bright and the refresh rate's don't seem bad for games either. For the price, they can't be beat, especially if you purchase a monitor along with their systems. They always have deals going on like buy one of their systems and get a 17" LCD for $300. I just bought a package and it came out to be around $650 total for a P4 2.8 gHz w/ LCD. Check out techbargains.com they usually have updates on the good deals at Dell.

I believe dell lcds are the same as sony lcds internally, just look for oem manufacture products that manufacture products for name brand companies. Also you should not look soely on brand for lcds, look at quality, some lcds have more burnt out lcds (the diode itself not the whole screen) and certain manufactures require a percentage of working lcds (diodes again) before the product is sold.
