DX9 is known to be buggy, you should install the later version (DX9b?) and see how it gors from there.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am pretty ignorant on this subject, so please bear that in mind if you are willing to reply further.

Zandro. Yes, the new Star Wars Jedi Academy game is DX9. I am assuming that as this is the case it requires DX9 in order to run; therefore, my interest in upgrading to DX9.

Am I missing something? Will these DX9 games still run with DX8? Or is it a trial and error thing.

Another concern is that Microsoft's website indicates that DX9 can not be uninstalled. So I would be concerned installing DX9 as a trial and error thing if I am unable to uninstall it.

MartyArts - snaek. How will I know if this driver is compatible or if it will cause problems. If it causes problems how do I get back to my original driver?

I have two computers. Both have Win XP Home as an operating system. Computer-1 has a Gateway 64MB nVidia GeForce2 MX400 AGP Video Card w/ DVI and TV Out . Computer-2 has a Gainward 128MB nVidia GeForce4 Ti4800 8XAGP Video Card with VIVO.

I spoke to Gainward tech support today. Unfortunately their tech support person speaks with a very thick accent and so I am not sure I gott all of the the facts. He indicated that in some tests that Mad Onion is conducting that they only passed 3 of 4 tests with the Ti4800 card. He therefore seemed to be of the opion that it would not work.

    Can anyone advise me further?

almost all cards are DX9 compliant...
but only newer cards like a radeon 9600 (prolly the cheapest DX9 card) and a Geforce 4 (not mx) use DX9 architecture.

Don't hesitate to install DirectX 9.
DirectX is compatible to lower versions.

I have DirectX 9.0b and a NVIDIA Riva TNT2 and everything works fine!

If you have a brand new viseo card you are able to use new funktions like "High Level Shader Language 2" and other cool stuff.

There are also new drivers available for you your cards on

Zandro's option is the best i think... can't think of another option

Not everyone has that kind of money, pvalexl. I know I can not just go out and buy and ATI Radeon of any kind right now. One should never throw out something and replace it with a new one if there is another solution that costs nothing.

you need to buy a DX 9 card like a Radeon 9700 or 9800

If they are not compliant, downgrade to 8.1b. Why, is there software involved that requires 9.0?

In general, what do I need to do to make my video card compliant with DirectX v9? I have NVidia GForce 2 and 4 cards.
