You guys are very very helpful and a wealth of information but I have a question ---- Is there any way to speed up the conversion process before nero burns the VCD sometimes it takes as much as 1 hour

The conversion takes time but at least it works !!

I have yet to see video conversion done in a fast manner...

    It always takes forever.

Nero can convert your file into MPEG file. Drag & drop your file & when Nero prompts to convert it to MOEG2, select encode.

ok, here is how it goes:

    Open NERO, select VCD

In the file browser, search for the .dat file, drag/drop the file into the "what to burn window"

Now U can burn the file.

yeh i believe so that you can...once the cd is loaded in the drive and nero is running then as far as i can remember you can locate sumthing in the tools dropdown i believe which saves eveything on the cd, but i only used that for music files so i dont know if it will work for anythin other than that...but hey it worth a try aint it

Why dont you just do a cd to cd copy? if you plan on making numerous copies of the cd later on... you can just SAVE the CD image.. just unclick "on the fly" cd copy. This way it saves an image of the CD to your hard drives... you'll have to tell nero to save the image when its done copying the first cd. it takes up as much hard drive space as there is info on the CD so gotta have a huge hard drive if you plan on doing this to a lot of vcds.

just use clone cd no changing or anything just clone it.
a tip is sometimes if you burn on to a blue coloured disc then you can watch them on a dvd player as some of them don,t seem to work. if its copyrighted use cloney cd.

I copied the VCD onto the HDD, and the actual movie files are .dat extensions.

How do I get the files from the HDD to VCD format that can be played in a DVD player. Do i need to convert the files to mpeg??

    Confused and need Help!
You should have use clond cd to copy the VCD.
You could have burned a bin & cue file to HD and then burned the vcd from that.

what i usually do is to convert file into suitable mpeg or avi format onto the computer. then i choose the VCD option on Nero burning software then it'll automatically format it forme and burnt it on a VCD. it can be played in a DVD player
