I think, Photoshop is the best! I used it in my office. Have u ever heard "Thats u got what u pay for" , or "Cheap thing no good, Good thing no cheap". Hahaha... the last one was my country's english. It cost around more than US$600.00!
Its almost a 4 months average salary (Junior Graphic Designer)
    in Indonesia!
Truely, its hard to use. But there are much book tutorials in store. Remember, "practice make perfect"...

Photoshop maybe expensive but in the long run i think it is worth it. I just bought it to fool around and now i do lots of graphic design work for differnt company's. its a pretty easy program once you get the hang of it.

PSP and PhotoImpact are easy to use picture programs, with nice features for creating animated images for webpages

Absolutely no point using CS over version 7. To be honest, the only difference I noticed was the logo, even though CS takes up over 100MB more than v7

I probably missed loads of stuff, but I don't need any more features than v7 has anyway.

Paintshop pro and Photoshop is what I use mostly. I use Photoshop mostly but paintshop is easier when doing other things.

Photoshop CS adds a few new features but If you have photoshop 7 (or even 6) then don't bother upgrading (unless you can upgrade for free, legally )

Try COREL or Macromedia. They make good software.
