The ringtone has too many channels in the midi. Most series 40 can only take 4

    Hi

Most mid-level phones have limits of around 30kb on ringtones. The newer phones which can handle MP3 usually plays anything that the memory can take. You have to ensure that you've got the SP-Midi's done correctly.

There are lots of software out there that can help. If you need more midi's check out my site.

maybe the phones internal software version is different which is why there are all these differences, but im pretty sure the max is 4 channels midi for the phone. i dont think the filesize limit is that low, check your phones memory to see if the space is there in the first place for the midi (im not implyin you are stupid its just an easy mistake to do)

I got it i think, first you need to convert the MIDIs to midi-1 files and then select only four channels

I have a 3530, and the file size limit is over 10k. I don't know how much though.

All Nokias that support 4-note polyphony need them to be converted to sp-midi with only 4 tracks being played at once.

The higher end Nokias support 16 or 24 notes at once, so most likely you don't need to convert them at all.

I have some free 4-note polyphony ringtones on my website:

There isn't any attachment over there.
If by chance you put it in the next post, then you'd be in for trouble, read point 4. of the 12 commandments. I guess someone must have read that.

Well, you could edit your post and attach the tone. The EDIT button is next to the QUOTE, then they'll have no reason to delete your post. Ever ready to fix tones...

I have a Nokia 3530. The 3530 can only play Polyphonic ringtones at 4 notes at a time. Any polyphonic rintone that has more that 4 notes at any one time will result in "Unable to open file"

is this a 4 note poly.....if so even this doesnt work!!!!

That's why I say stick to Samsung for Ringtones. I don't need to worry about tracks, as my 40-poly phone takes whatever I throw at it, while my Nokia is very fussy. I tried playing a 16-chord midi, and it refused to play. I then tried a 8 chord MIDI(Mozart Symphony 40), it played, but with "beats", quality far poorer than my Samsung.
