    whenever i open the search feature it says

    'A file that is required to run Search Companion cannot be found. You may need to run setup again'

    seems like there's nothing more i advice you know?

    have you tried the recovery console of windows. it usually pops up whenever you boot up the cd first rather than the hard disk...

    also, would you mind to post actual problem.. what does the dialog box that pops up actually says....

    i really like to fix problems like that....

    um ermines...there was no upgrade system.
    when i inserted the cd there was 'install win zp', 'install windows components' and some other stuff...

    this is just a guess but hope it works...
    boot up in your hard disk then insert your cd. then a dialog box will pop up. chose installing it then you'll have the option of making a new installation or upgrading the system. chose upgrading it.

    if i reinstall win xp, will my hard disk be affected?
    i tried booting from the inst cd but there's nothing that says repair or something....

    try reinstalling the os again or maybe upgrading it/fixing it by booting up your cd again. this are guesses really since i didn't encounter any problems with the search feature of winxp home.

    i need some help
    i'm using win xp home edition. when i open the search feature, it says that 'a component needed to run the search companion was not found'...something like that coz i can't remember it exactly....how do i fix it?
