STAY AWAY FROM FAMILY PLANS! in my opinion they are a total rip off. Having 3 or so people (at least 1 ususally a teenager) sharing only 500 or so weekend munites. TRUST ME its better if each person in your family to get their own plan. I've been down that road before and it left me with nothing but a hole in my wallet.

Start with a provider that gives a 30 day trial period. My advice is if you do not get a good signal at home, work and in between during this period - cancel. Don't let them tell you things will get better (I'm living that nightmare now).

they gave nokia and se phones 2 out of 5 while every other manufacturer was given higher, that's crazy! just don't follow them too closely would be my advice.

It will give you some quick Ideas of what companies to consider and which one's you may want to avoid. Every location defines its own best carrier. I am not suggesting that JD Power and Associates is the answer or law, in fact I sometimes disagree with them, but its a solid place to start. Good luck

It depends on if u want more bang for ur buck or if u want the best service out there. I'd have to say that Sprint & Verizon have the best signal out there as of now, but if u want a good deal go to T-mobile or Cingular. Almost every cell phone company now has a family plan that u & ur family could possilby take advantage of. So what I suggest is to do some research online, or go to the stores, & then pick what carrier u want to go with. Sky's the limit!!

Go to a Verizon Wireless store. You have to purchase a phone, and then decide which plan would suit you best. There's special deals going on where if you buy a family plan you will get a free phone (or something like that). You don't HAVE to choose Verizon, but that's the provider I have and I only hear people complain about the service they get with Nextel, Cingular etc, etc. Definitely research online before you hit the store if you are clueless about this stuff. Go visit www.Verizonwireless.com

Well, it depends whats available where you are. If you plan to use it rarely, get a pre-paid that comes with a phone. If your looking to use it fairly often, get a plan.

Im sure someone at a cell phone store can help you out.

Ok, well, I really have no idea how the general cell phone thing works. All I know is myself and the rest of my family need one.

Can anyone tell me how exactly going about getting the right plan would work? Do I buy the cell phones first, then buy the plan for the cell phones? or do the cell phones come with plans...or, is it different for each? Total cell phone newbie, any information is great. I don't even know what most of the cell phone terms mean - rollover, roaming, so forth, or how to go about getting a plan and cell phones for myself and my family.
