This post is 5 years old, and no longer relevant, all contract telus mobility phones come with data cables and software required for moving pictures, ringtones, and videos to your handset from your computer.

    Alan with an E
I have a Telus LG Shine out of Winnipeg MB since November. If you're looking to complain about the provider/service and have negative excuses, I guarantee you will find an excuse to complain. If it's about Han or Greedo shooting first, it's about a hasty generaliztion about Telus and their phones.

Every provider has their own little restrictions in their service or hardware in some way shape or form to urge customers to purchase their own services. All I can suggest is to do your research and be smarter than that. Get BitPim, locate your drivers, buy a $5 cable from itrimming on eBay, and a $20 2GB MicroSD on Amazon, jump through a couple of hoops like I had to under Rogers and MTS through the years (i.e finding your app/pic resolution and ringer format) and bingo bongo boom, I have all my apps, songs and ringers I need within a week of tutoring myself through the routine.

Telus is fine...I would be keen if Spark was open to any website, but it's not - so I have my own hoops to jump through to open other website content.
Be open-minded, be fair and be smarter. Complaining gets you nowhere.

Opinions are like a-holes. Everybody's got one. Just don't let opinion make you sound like one.

We have the above mentioned for nearly all Telus and Bell camera phones.
Our cables have been tested with actual Telus phones and Telus phones are used in the tutorial using our cables and the software/drivers we provide.

To the other guy.. Don't go Rogers. Their coverage is brutal especially if you travel.

PM me if you need more info.

Of course Telus sells the cables for their phones, that way they can gouge the customers for even more money. What they don't tell you is that you have to change settings, "hack" your phone to get anything to work the way you want it, and if you do change the settings you void the warranty. I have had the same number with Telus for 14 years and the only reason I stay with them is the coverage, I don't use my phone in large cities much, usually way out in the boonies. The last two phones I bought were the v710 (what a piece of crap) and the 6265i, and both phones were next to useless untill I unlocked all the features. Sure I "voided" my warranty but at least the phone was then useable for my purposes. Telus has all its employees so brainwashed that if you complain about the company the only response they have is "If you don't like it, go someplace else". How about making the customer happy. I use my own ringtones, upload and download pictures, and even tranfer small files using my phone, what right have they got to say what I can do with my phone. It is afterall MY phone....what are they, the phone police. If I am doing something illegal with my phone is it not up to the real police to prosecute me? I even downloaded a picture from their site to use as wallpaper....coud not use it as the drm settings in the phone would not allow it. I am extremely greatfull to the individuals on the internet that take the time to figure out how to open these phones up to get full use out of them. Ack!! Didn't mean to rant for so long...Telus does suck, but there are ways to make the suck less.

I recently purchased a Motorola V262 from Telus and I am glad to say that I can upload and download games and ringtones, and pictures. Telus still sucks though. I bought my phone for $150 plus tax and they charged me 10 bucks to switch my account over and they always seem to slip a few cents out of my account every day. As soon as the phone companies allow you to switch while keeping your own number, I'm switching to Bell. The biggest mistake I made is switching from Bell to Telus.

i own the audiovox 8900, and i use the data cable with BitPim8900 and Brewsky8900 to successfully download my pics from the phone to my computer, and i can upload mp3's and have them as pretty decent quality ringers up to 22 seconds long, fit maybe like 20 of them... Telus doesnt suck, most people just suck with cells and dont know what they're talking about... with BitPim you can view the filesystem of the phone and change literally ANYTHING you want if you know CDMA which is pretty much as high-level as a programming language could be.

People also forget anothr big drawback to Telus and to the other CDMA cell phone provider(Bell). YOU HAVE TO BUY THEIR PHONES! It wouldn't be that bad, except for the fact that the monopoly of the cell phone industry in Canada has allowed a few companies to sell us crappy phones that are 1-2 years old. I bought my phone from Europe, Sharp gx30. It came out almost 2 years ago and it is STILL better than most phones than you get in canada through your provider. We basically get the garbage from Europe and Asia. At least the GSM providers allow you the choice of buying any GSM phone(it is up to you to make sure it has the proper bands - 1900 and 850). You can go to rogers or fido and just get a SIM card, without having to buy the phone. This, along with all the other reasons mentioned so far(not enough has been said about their awful contracts...if you insist on CDMA technology at least go with Bell they have way better plans), in my opinion plainly shows how Telus is the worst of the cell phone providers in Canada.

oh, and i work for a company that does development of ringtones so those of you that are not even old enough to work and get your cell phone paid by your parents, please get a real job then post as those ringtones that you pay for puts food on my table... thanks.

What everyone fails to realize is that the download fee partly pays for food on the table for the artists that you so much enjoy listening to on your phone....I bet if u asked fidy cent if you could have his ringtone for free, he'd probably put a cap in ur azz hahaha....the reality is that Telus has to pay a copyright fee and they pass the amount onto us, the consumer, who has every choice of either paying for it or passing it up....same debate as downloading dvds off the net or going out and paying $25 for a dvd ...

However, the fact that Telus limits the downloading onto the cell phones is something entirely different. I would say that it is the same as one car manufacturer offering features that another car manufacturer doesn't....you have the choice to go w/Rogers, who offers u what u want w/out the benefits of good coverage, or go w/Telus who has good coverage but limits the downloading capabilities.....why are people always *****ing about it ? just do your research and don't buy it because it doesnt meet your needs instead of buying it, then trying to ***** at the provider to change their practices ? What is it w/this whole "me me me" generation ??

"Dont like it, dont buy it" .. simple and move on w/ur life instead of *****ing and griping !!
