i think u should go with virgin mobile, they support int. calling/txting and its free 2 recieve txts and this month we have free nightly texting, i live in michigan and get great service when im outside or in the car, but i can only send texts in the house the calling price is good, $0.25 for the first 10 minutes of each day, and after that only $0.10 but the idea of just leaving the country while having a 2 year contract going sounds like it would work

Some networks will allow send and recive of international TXT, some will be recieve only and some will be send only.
If you have trouble sending or recieving OS TXT that will be the reason why.

go with cingular. i both have t-mobile and cingular prepaid. everytime i send a text message using my t-mobile to my sister in malaga it wont go thru but i can recieve a text from her. if i use use my cingular for sending text to her it allways go thru and no problem recieving a text from her. my sister from canada sending a text to my cingular i wont recieve it, i don;t know why. take cingular because it has mo problem calling and sending txt to spain.

If you are going to leave after one year....then what does it matter if you get contract? Just leave the country with the contract still alive heheehe...just kidding, but I wonder if that is possible...Pay as you go is probable best good luck

Go with prepaid hermano. Its alot better and it will work out better in the end for you

Pre-pay is probably the way to go for you, but some companies do offer one year contracts...you would just have to lose out on some of their promotions (i.e., $100 rebate instead of $150 etc). And I have no idea who is good in your area it sounds like TwinAmato has some ideas. You can also check out

Try checking out websites, or going into a store (do you speak good english? it's seems you do) I have Verizon and in terms of good reception?? I think in this state they have the best range. Mi hermana tengo Cingular. Tenemos malo servicio (did I say that right? My sister has Cingular. They have bad service)
My boyfriend has Nextel and he also has horrible service ... just to name a few companies...

If you'll only be in the USA for 1 year I'd say pre-pay. Only because most companies will make you sign a contract for 2 years, and then if you terminate early they'll charge you big time for an "early termination" fee
