Never heard of that happening before with the handset yes because T-Mobile lock their handsets be default, can you take the sim card to a retail T-Mobile store to have the sim card placed into one of the active demonstration handsets to see if the same thing occurs, if it does then it’s a defective sim card

Ok, I went to a T-Mobile store, tried a new sim card, and it worked. Paid $20 at the store for the new card, then called up T-Mobile customer service to request for the amount credited back to the account (since the store could not credit my account).

So, it looks like the new sim card is different than the old one (maybe newer firmware and/or newer chip), and all the previous T-Mobile sim cards I tested with E-638 were
obviously the older generation (I even went to a local cell-phone dealer to try their sim cards). And when I first called up T-Mobile tech support, I asked them first thing if there re new version of sim cards, but they dont have any clue of what I was talking about.

Alright, Marz, thanks for letting me know that they have some working sim cards around.

    Hey Marz:

I just got a V690 from China. Having some difficulties with it as well. It is working, but my setups seem to be incorrect, even though I have gone to the website and input the configurations accordingly. I'm also in San Francisco Bay Area, WC.

When you took it into the T-Mobile, same question as the other person, designated or actual T-Mobile location, and did you have any problems getting them to help with it. I called the T-Mobile help line and they were completely bumfuzzled and couldn't help me because they didn't have a picture of MY phone on their website. Basically telling me good luck.

OH! Also, I have software and when I sync up on my computer, it is telling me that it is roaming on Cingulair network. And, I now note that the little doodad is on their indicating roaming!!!

    Thanks in advance.

Hey Marz, where did you go to have the SIM card replaced?? Just went to the T-Mobile offical store, or any authorized T-Mobile dealer? And if you know what version or any serial number of SIM card I need to request? Thanks.

I got the same phone (e638) from Hong Kong. I brought home to NYC and inserted T-Mobile SIM card only to stall on the same screen "Welcome to T-Mobile". But I inserted a friend's T-Mobile SIM card and it worked fine, in fact I inserted my T-Mobile SIM card into friend's phone and it also worked fine. Repeated the same swap with a friend's Cingular SIM card, worked fine. So for some strange reason my particular T-Mobile SIM card has issues with my particular phone. Maybe a difference in SIM card generations (Voicestream vs. T-Mobile)? Makes no sense. Any thoughts?

I borrowed the ATT sim card for testing. I only subscribe to T-mobile. Swtiching to ATT means early termination fee, spotty reception at my home, etc...

Why not use your ATT sim?
