I have a nextel i860 that I would like use on Telus network. When I inserted my telus SIM card it ask to enter a special code, and subsidy lock on the front display. I tried different codes and none worked. now the phone says Wait to enter special code and does no more. Anyone know what has happened to the phone and how I can fix or reslove this problem?

All phones need to be fully unlocked to be used with Telus. Nextel phones newer than the 730 are double locked, and almost all Boost phones are double locked. If anyone needs help with this, PM me

    Which phone?
Some phones (Telus-Mike service) can be unlocked if you read code plug from the phone (you'll need a data cable and software), have someone remove the Subsidy lock and re-load the code plug back to the phone. On the other hand, some newer phones can not be unlocked with this method since they are double locked (newer Nextel phones).

Is it fairly easy to buy an i860 (Nextel) to be used in Canada on Telus? I presume the phone has to be unlocked.

I work for nextel in a call centre, so i know lots about the i830, i860, basically anything that starts with "i".
If you're switching an i830 sim card into an 860, know this: your picture messaging will not work. those pictures you take will be stuck on your phone. the i860 uses a different system for messaging, and when you stick another sim card in there, the network won't see it as being capable of handling the new system, cuz its an i830, and thus will not set up the phone for it.
Everything else will work fine, this is just something i wanted to warn you about. Besides, if you really want to take pictures to keep, buy a digital camera.

    Hey,

You should be able to put your existinf SIM card in the Nextel handset and use the phone normally. I have lots of customers that buy from US and so this.

One more question about unlocking a phone, do you unlock the phone or the SIM? Since I will be swapping my i830 SIM into the i860 can I unlock the SIM now so when my phone arrives I’m ready to go?

    Thanks a million guys,
