Is sucking pretty good actually better or worse than sucking pretty bad?

I may ask someone, "Does that suck?" They may reply, "Yeah, that sucks bad!" Then I know that we're dealing with a genuinely undesirable condition.

But if I ask the same question and I'm answered with, "Yeah, that sucks pretty good!", I'm left with a grammatical conundrum.

I guess if it sucks pretty good, that means that it does a better job of sucking than something that sucks bad. So if something is said to suck bad, does that mean it does a lousy job of sucking, and therefore is actually good?

Okay, that's as intellectual as I can get this morning.
