    All you have to do is call prior to porting to another carrier and have it taken off. it is there to protect the current customers. with this new ability to change phone numbers there is a possibility for someone to take your number from you if you do not have number gaurd.

    yea, thats basically it, if you try to port your number to another carrier it doesnt allow the number to leave until its removed, i think its just another way for nextel to screw its customers over

    Just thought i'd say it cuz it sucks, but nextel puts this on their subscribers phone numbers so that they cant port out, you have to call and request it to be moved off, which is junk cuz almost nobody knows about it, it took me a month to activate a customer since neither one of knew that this sort of thing existed, if you think about it, its kinda like locking you in even more, not to mention the nasty 2 year agreements they have, alls i gotta say is - JUNK!!!
