This is VERY bad news. I've had the 830 for less than a year and I need a new phone because this one sucks SOOO bad. My sons cheap little 530 gets 3 or 4 bars when I'm showing "no service". The phone doesn't just drop calls, it completely shuts OFF while I'm talking. It's a piece of crap and I guess I need to steer clear of any phone that starts with 8.
I've always had people tell me that the cheaper the phone, the better it actually works. I'm starting to believe it.

You must have had a bad phone. I've had an 836 since the day it was released and have had absolutely no problems with it, and have gotten better service than ever before. It works as well as my friends 870.

Well if you want me to make a suggestion, go with an i560. Great bang for the buck! Or an unlocked boost i450 (very cheap on ebay)

The i833/i836 should be somewhere in between the i860 and the i830 for reception... even though the design is based on the i830 (and its nice and small like the i830 ) they supposedly tweeked it a bit and picks up signal a little better than i830.

i833 vs i836 there's hardly any differences but I'm guessing asside from the "pinninfarina" markings, the i836 probably doesn't have the nice ferrari startup and shut-down animations (one of them is an RPM gauge, I can't remember what the other is). Either way, I'm sure you can probably find a way to copy the i833 animations over to an i836 if you really care enough!

sounds like you subscribed for (or have it included in your plan) mobile email. If so you can access it from the net mode of the phone. You can create, read, reply, and delete emails. Also if you have dsl or cable and use outlook at home you can access all outlooks features with desktop assistant.

This may be a general nextel service question, but since I have the i836, I posted here. I setup alerts on mynextel and have the mobile email data plan. My phone does not always get the alert for the emails. Also when I open an alert on my phone, I am not able to look at the email itself. Is there anyway that I am able to look at the body of an email and be able to reply to it.

I am right in the NYC metro area and there is a lot of use with nextel phones in the area with no complaints. I get so many different errors from time to time. Like 'Please try again later' 'System Busy' and there are a few other wierd ones that I see that are worded different and they all have some number at the end on the screen. I got a call from a nextel rep yesterday to try to help me get accustomed to the data plan. She was trying to explain to me in detail pretty generic features which I explained I was aware of and that is why I took the data plan. Then I ask her some real questions about my model phone and those messages and also to help me with setting up outlook with pop3 to foward to my phone...She just paused for a very long time and kinda brushed it of and said there was probably a problem with the network. So to cut it short she just talked a lot about all of the features and tried to get me to buy some ringtones(Read this site and now know how to use the data cable) but when it came to some real questions, she had no answers.

I have had the i836 for a couple of weeks now. It might just be my phone(brand new) but it seems to have lousy reception and trouble when calling out. I get a wide array of different 'failed call try again' with a number after it on my screen. This being a main downfall, the actual phone is great and I love it. I am just a little weary about it having bad reception and dropped calls. I have heard this too about another friend that has trouble calling someone he knows that has the i836 in my area. Before he had this phone, calls were fine.

I picked the i860 for a few reasons. Everyone I see now has the i860 and plus there is a big difference in price. I like how thin the design is, just like the i830 (of course), but this phone see to be able to handle some wear and tear scratches on the case and not looked all messed up. I have a few more but I suddenly got tired....dozin off
