Also.. since you've tried all of those software problems.. you may have created some device driver conflict... see if you can clean out all drivers and software. Then try a solid program like DATAPILOT, which seems to do the most smooth install of drivers, etc. I thought I had a defective cable.. as I was getting device conflicts on my laptop.. Finally, I tried on a 'fresh' computer.. and it worked. I cleaned out my laptop and installed DataPilot first. It works great now.

Thanks DVPACE, I had a serial cable, generic (not USB) -no luck, then bought a USB cable at Radio Shack from Future Dial - who sells the software separately, which got me some tech support. Their website has a page that shows the proper cable for each model of phone. The e105 would have the USB cable, but with the converter thing in the middle of the cable, but I have the straight cable. I also have a Samsung r225, which is supposed to work with the straight cable--- but I could not get it to. The support person said either your phone gets recognized or it doesn't, and couldn't exactly say why --- vodoo electronics. So, I just gave up on cables but not my obsessed desire to make something work. I have on order what for my purposes should be the easy solution: a USB Sim Card Reader. There are several on ebay. Just for jollies (obsessive jollies) I decided also to order a USB infrared adapter to see if that will work. We'll see what happens.

I don't know if this helps but I can tell you that I originally bought the USB cable for this phone and could do nothing with it. Tried all kinds of software including GPRS and could not get it to work. Now I have the OEM samsung data kit with the serial connection and it works great. Only hint I have for you is that you have to turn on your computer and the phone at the same time for recognition, according to manual. I have also just hit the reload button on my software and it does the same thing...... Only thing I am dissapointed about is that I can not download games with the cable...Good Luck!!!!!!

Okay, so I tried the cheap route too. But my cable is a serial cable like the genuine Samsung. I have the e105, and am using Easy GPRS software, I have tried it on Com port 1 and 3, which are the only options it gives me. On com3 when I reload I get 2 messages, "cannot read messages" . On com1 It reloads with no messages, but either way I get no info from the phone onto Easy GPRS. On COM3 I also get beeps from the phone. My main goal is to download/upload my phone book. Any suggestions?? For those of you with the Samsunge genuine kit--- any suggestions/settings that you needed to do??

i definitely agree with kirisu. i also bought the oem samsung serial cable and have never had any problems with it. it worked with my v200, s200, s300 and e710. i bought it locally for $30. the plus side is that my flashes worked flawlessly too.

just food for thought...why buy a aftermarket cable and find out that something is wrong with it. get no warranty or replacement. must buy another aftermarket cable, etc. after all that, you spent enough money on aftermarket cables to buy the oem in the first place.

This'll teach you to never buy generic stuff, ever again...

Hmm.. strange. I have an authentic Samsung datalink cable (PC8093LBE) that connects to my COM1 port thingy. I suggest you return or or something.. Or at least go out and buy the actual cable. It's not that expensive.. I heard it's probably 40 bucks, at most. But it's well worth it! You see, if you bought the cable, then you made your own ringtones (for free! Yay free stuff!), it's better versus having to pay $1.99 for those darn polyphonic ringtones on T-Zone (I believe it's called megatones). Also, once you have an authentic cable, then you can use Easy GPRS, fairly easy.

EDIT - Oh and in case you might've not seen what phone model I have, a I have a Samsung SGH-E315. It's a great deal like the e105, except with a camera ;] Pretty decent phone, if I do say so myself. Since they're virtually alike in many ways, most likely the PC8093LBE Data Link cable will work. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask. The cable works with virtually most, if not all, samsung models.

It happened to me once and the cable was defective. I had to exchange it and then it worked. Maybe you should check that.

    Toolman,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I've already tried it. Is the phone supposed to beep or anything like that once it's recognized? I've tried EVERYTHING. I don't understand why it won't work. I'm thinking of trying the kit from DataPilot, though that uses a serial to USB cable like the one I already have, so I'm wondering if that won't work either.

Any further suggestions would be great, or even better, if anyone knows the best data cable to buy for the Samsung SGH-E105. Thanks in advance,

    Justin

It's a small thing - but I've seen it work - turn your phone off. Make sure it's plugged into the cable, and the cable into the computer, then turn the phone on. My friend's computer just plain wouldn't see his phone until he did this. Good luck.

    Hey all,

I just bought one of those generic USB to Serial adapter cables, for my phone, the Samsung E105. The cable has a sticker on it that says it's for the E715, but the website says it will work on the E105 as well.

Anyway, I have followed the instructions, and installed the latest prolific drivers, before plugging in the cable and connecting my phone. The computer recognizes the cable, but is it supposed to recognize my phone as a USB device when I plug the phone into the cable, because it's not doing that.

I have tried different software, EasyGPRS, Futuredial SnapMedia, and Susteen DataPilot and used the latest versions. I select the make, model and appropriate COM port for the phone in DataPilot, and tell it to search for my phone. It will NOT find my phone.

I have tried EVERYTHING and am about ready to pull my hair out. Does anyone have any experience with these cables and if so, could anyone make a suggestion to help me get this working? I'm wondering if I'm missing something, I just have no idea what.

    Please help!

    Thanks,

    Justin
