There's some advice on how to go about picking a cell phone and plan at the site Point.com (http://www.point.com/articles/2005/0...g_your_fir.php). If you go to the homepage there are also recommendations on what they consider to be good deals.

I find that Cellular Choices (http://www.cellularchoices.net) has the best FREE cell phone offers generally speaking, but it depends on what phone you want.

I think it is very important to check coverage before you
make a purchase. The rate plans are very competive and
simular in price, but the coverage varies greately,
depending on where you need to use the device. I mean
what good are rollover minutes if you can't get out on
the phone, besides you can only accrue rollover minutes
for a year, and then you loose them, just like sick leave
at old fashioned real jobs, they are banking on you not
ever getting to use them unless you like to talk a lot, or
use your sick leave to go to the beach.
The best thing to do is talk to anyone who has a cell
phone in the areas you need to use one. Be polite and
ask some questions, and you might meet some nice
new people. Find out how they like the coverage and
reliability of the phone , the network and the customer
service. In certain pockets around my county there are
"dead spots" where no carriers work, and other areas
where only one carrier works. I have heard a lot of complaints about Cingular, but also there are some
isolated pockets out in the San Geronomo Valley where
it works, so if your building out there you need it

In my experience all cell phone companies are almost the same coverage wise they advertise excellent coverage but it is never 100%, there will always be gray areas where coverage is not so great. I would advise you to look at the plans as well and since you would like to call Canada check the long distance rate when calling there and/or when being physically there. What good is a good deal on a phone if you get stuck on rate plan that you end up not liking...

btw also look into a phone that you physically like as well...

Maybe you'll look into going with the Motorola V551. I got mine for $50 and it's a great phone. The V551 is available with Cingular plans, which is great for me since I'm mid-U.S. Hopefully Cingular's coverage would be just as good in Canada, too.

when i signed up for sprint, i got a $70 camera phone and my plan was 1000 minutes for $40, because i was a new customer. great deal if you ask me.

    www.cingular.com

Click "Shop Cingular" , "Phones and PDA's", and enter your zip code.

The website seems to be down right now. I know the Motorola V220 is 29.99. I have the Samsung SGH-E317, and it was 69.99, and well worth the price. The Motorola Razor is 199.99.

    Hi
I have Cingular, and I personally think they have very reasonable prices. They have some camera phones, such as the Motorola V220, that are very low-cost.

Good luck in finding the right phone,
    Chris

I cant tell what are good deals or not. What I would like is a not so costly Camra phone or just a good Cell Phone deal where I dont have to worry about going over and paying so much. Does anyone know if theres plans that cover Cananda too? If I wanted to call there and such. I am like a Cell Phone Virgin LOL.
My friend wants me to get cinguler but I am not sure.
Can anyone explain to me or give me links to sites that might help me pick?
