    Dr. Pasquale
I have had 5 Motorola phones and have been using Motorola 2 way
radios for 30 years in Public Works.
If you live in a fringe area where one phone works and another model
doesn't that probably means that one make of phone is better than the
other. Where I live there are several dead spots where no carrier works
except for the Marin Fire and Sheriffs frequencys, and other places where
only one carrier works. Motorola phones used to offer a car kit or
antenna port for all their phones, but now they only offer the kits for
Nextel phones, they do not offer one for a RAZR as far as I know, so I
myself would not buy a RAZR. The car kit enables one to use an external
antenna- and 3 watt amplifier for iDEN (Nextel) if need be. It is true
that AT&T TDMA is the best overall network for reliaibility, coverage and
voice quality, but since Cingular bought it they want to trick people into
switching over to there lower powered, narrower bandwidth, poorer
voice quality and cheaper to maintain American GSM network running at
1900Mhz. I don't think Verizon' s CDMA is much better, allthough I heard
back East it is the choice for flatlanders (city folk). Check out this site for
    amplifiers and accessorys www.cellantenna.com/Boosters/cellphone_signal

Ive always had better coverage in the northwest with us cellular. My sister has verizion and at their house she doesen't get coverage and has to use her home phone... but not I. As for motorola, I won't buy another one. Between my girlfriend and myself we've had problems with 3 phones not working. But as anyone can say different people treat phones different ways and have different preferances.

Sorry if that sounded like a recommendataion.
i am not recommending using the sticker for signal strength. It is just something I have seen people do. I dont have any idea about whether it works or not.
NY/NJ area verizon is best. But it does not mean they would be best everywhere. In fact in remote areas, I believe AT&T had better reach than verizon.

I've had a Sony Ericsson, Nokia, and a Motorola. The Sony Ericcson I had was very fragile. It eventually became a piece of junk, that's when I purchased a Nokia. The Nokia was alrite, it could have used some improvements, but I have nothing against it. The Motorola I currently use now is excellent. It's by far the best phone I've purchased from any manufacture, and it is also the first phone I've purchased from Motorola. I plan on getting yet another Motorola as soon as my contract ends next year, 'cause there are a lot of goodies comin' out very soon. Overall, I say if you're opening a line with Cingular, Motorola is by far the best choice out there. That's just my opinion, but keep in mind that Motorola is on top in the cell phone industry, and that they have the sexiest phone out at the moment, the Razr v3! =]

Good luck on whichever phone you do choose!

    thanks for your feedback Motofan...
I agree to a certain point, yes it also depends on how the network/towers and the service provider's footprint is laid out in your area, but not all phones are created equal, now Moto i'm a bit disappointed that you would also recommend using one those those stickers to improve signal, they do not work, also to say that Verizon has that best network in the country, yes they are a great service provider but you'd be surprised how many dead spots they still have to the point where they have to roam on another network.

I have used nokia, sony, motorola, samsung. All of them are comparable. signals strength are more dependent on the transmission towers and their transmission strength.
You can always take a not so cool phone with an external antenna or a pull out antenna, and get better signal strength.
Some people also use an internal antenna - which is like a thin sticker you put inside your phone below the battery to catch more waves from the air.
I have seen the number of bars change inside a house and sometimes even within a room. You would be better chosing a provider like verizon who has the best network in the country.

    Tony E!
I've used different makes/models with Cingular and ATT through the years, the Motorolas have always given me excellent RF, that alone makes them stand out from the rest, Nokias are also real good in that dept, but don't take my word for it, i'm sure others will chime in on what works for them...good luck.

How do you know that Motorola Phone are really good on signal strengths? And what makes the V551 so different then the rest? Sorry for the stupid questions just want to know what I should be looking for in regards to signal strength.

    Thanks!!!

    Welcome to CPF Bernman

Motorola phones are excellent in the RF (signal) dept, you can try a v551.

Hello all!!! First time poster hear :-)

I want to get my wife a new phone for the Cingular Network and am very skeptical because I got here a Samsung X475 and when I sat it side by side with my Treo 650 it wasn't even comparable. I would have 3 or 4 bars and her phone right next to mine would go from 0 to 1 bars. I am looking for any kind of feedback on any phone that gets great signal. Or even how do I research what phones get the best signal?

Thanks all to who reply to this!!!

Hope you all are having a great weekend :-)

    The Bernman
