Its rewriting the firmware of the phone...you can change settings and junk that didnt come factory installed but are already built-in to the phone...

I havn't had any reason to do it yet...but i guess thats because I have an i530 and not somthing fancy and option-heavy like the i830

I haven't tried to re-write my CP yet. what is that? Purely doing ringers, wallpapers, and games, things are going smooth with the cable.

Alright, thanks...I havnt run into any real problems when trying to upload ringtones and such...but I'm just a little hesitant to use it to rewrite my CP after reading articles and threads such as this one
    http://cellphoneforums.net/t158993.html

But, if I havn't had a problem with it yet, it must be ok....right?

    Sorry to be a n00b..but first post..here goes :P

I have the USB cable that was sent with the GPS upgrade package by Nextel a while back...but I heard that these cables were faulty

It is the NNTN5970A cable...is this safe to use for things that dont require writting the CP? such as ringtones and what not..

Also, what is the difference between the RSS programs (carrier, depot, and others)

    Thanks
    Matt
