I think you just pinpointed the problem. I WAS talking about a raid array. Maybe you just missed it or something.

    PHP Code:
How much a terabyte costWhat can a terabyte do? Is terabyte only for serverResponse will be appreciatedThanks
The hitachi deskstar 7k500's I'm getting are around $500 each. So 5 of them where around $2500 +/-. Then you may or may not need additional raid controllers if you want a raid array. I decided on the sata netcell revolution for $300 since it looks like a ATAPI device during windows installation and doesn't require the f6 driver installation step. A TB is overkill for most home users, but what the heck.

you do? lmao! I'm sure. especially after the way you *****ed employees and facility.

And your math is not very good. Formatted capacity of a raid 3 array using 5 500gb drives is actually 1.86TB due to the discrepancy between how windows and the drive manufactures quote storage capacities, plus you also lose one drives space to parity bit storage. Unless of course you want to use raid 0 and risk losing 2TB of files. Still close enough to call it 2TB. Next time try reading and comprehending to avoid putting your foot in your mouth. I've probably worked on mainframes and networks longer than you have been alive.

wait troyboy... 5 500 Gb hdds? that would be 2500 Gb... which would equal 2.44 Tb, so you do the math

sorry, dual terabytes using 5 500gb drives. Technically formatted capacity would only be 1.86TB but who's counting. I wasn't talking about a single drive since the largest pc based is 500gb, but if you put them into a raid 0 array they would in fact be seen as a single drive! Now if you are talking about non pc drive sizes, that's a whole different world. I have a hard time grasping the storage figures totals of the mainframe I operate for a living.

to make everything right again there is a 1tb system, lacie makes the external. note the fact that i said system, because i think it's 2x 500gb drive instead of one. but they are indeed selling it as the 1 tb storage tower

    1) a terra byte... no... lol... a hdd with a terra byte HAS NOT been released. If it has and i missed it, you need a pretty powerful processor, MORE than a 3.73 GHz which i have)
Nice reading....who said anything about a single drive? I said 5 500g drives. More than 3.73 GHZ proc? How about 2 dual cores, think that will work? lol

You can have more than 2.
I currently have 3 Hard drives in my comp atm, one running windows, one running linux and one for all my stuff, and iv often had to replace my cd drive with another when copyin stuff, so on a regular comp with all the usual bits, 4 Hard drives is possible.

alright man, troyboy, lemme point out some mistakes:

err i know it is not 2

a ide channel can take up to 2 hard drives. and there are usually 2 ide channel that comes with your motherboard.

but the thing is that you can buy pci cards with ide channels on them so you can have more hard drives. so the limit is endless depends on how many pci slots you have free.

set to master or slave? Man catch up and get SATA.

My current build will have 1T a hard drive in raid 3. Yes, that's 5 500g drives.
