    Thanks for the offer/thought.

I'm already in NA and have a phone.

There's no straight answer to that. I'm unsure of the specs of the
3315 that you refer to, but "real basic" sums it up, well. Phone calls
and SMS is all that’s needed, really. If it's cheap enough, I'll treat it
as a disposable item and perhaps give it to my hosts, before I leave.
If it’s single or dual (North America) band, it wont work in NZ. So
bringing it back would require a quad, or tri, at the least. The charger
wont work here in NZ, either, because the input is 240, not 110v.

So my best option seems to be something inexpensive enough to
be “disposable,” given that I’m going to have to buy a SIM card
for Rogers and Cingular (or T-mobile), as well as a recharge card
    for both.

Does that make it any clearer?

Thanks. I think that I intuitively knew that. But I could've made it
clearer that I didn't want to buy anyone's plan with their phone.

I need a cheap cell phone while I'm on a visit
from New Zealand. I’ll also be in Canada for
    2 weeks, with Rogers.

    Here's my specs:
    Unlocked
    Pre-pay
    GSM
    Tri or quad band
    Cheap to buy
Basic - no frills (no gadgetry required)
    A wall charger
    A basic manual
    Bar/brick/block style preferred.

Any takers? Or suggestions? I don't mind going
to a shop in LA, once I get there.
