Ahh, Reader...I think you may have found what I'm looking for... Thank you very much!

What you're talking about is a linear amplifier, of sorts.

It connects from the phone to the amplifier to an external antenna so you're not exposed to the increased radiation.

    Around $300...saw one here.

Aside from there being no direct evidence that a more powerful phone causes cancer, the accessory I'm looking for does not go inside of a cell phone. It is a gadget that attaches to a cell phone in some way that connects to a power device and an external antenna. You end up with a .6 watt phone with the power of an old 3-watt unit. I've seen these devices advertised in the past and recall the price being around $150, but don't know here to find one at this time.

Actually all of the phones that were stationary in a car were 3 watt phones. These came along well after the portable 3-watt phones which most everyone had that came along after the early bag phones which, yes, were also 3-watt. All of those phones were analog, but when it comes to power and connectivity outside of major cities, they could run circles around any of the .6 watt phones we have today.

3 watt phones? You mean the old baggers? Damn that was a long time ago.

Most of the "add ons" like internal antennas are a waste of time.

Rather than getting brain cancer (or "lack of brain" cancer) you might want to pull over at a pay phone!

I have an LG cell phone with Verizon. It's a typical .6 watt phone. When out in the countryside I frequently get lousy reception. I miss the days of my 3 watt phones! What is a good accessory I could purchase that would juice up the power and the phone's receptive ability when riding out in spots that have poor service?
