Mp3's are the bestm they can be of midi type sounds if you are looking for just pure tones, they can be voices or movie quotes, and best are the cd quality music . Nothing can compare , I have had and tried so many cell's over the years and the best so far is my s710. Add mp3's to the memory card and its a mp3 player thru stereo headset mic setup.
all in all mp3's rock as ringtones due to their versability and quality which midi's cannot even come close to matching

theres a limit to not only what u can DO with midis but what you can HAVE as a midi ringtone because a midi of everything simply doesn't exist. besides that, they sound like Nintendo games. midis are only good if your phone doesn't support MP3 files. with MP3s you can have ANYthing u want as a ringtone, it doesn't even have to be music, you can have jokes, sound efx, or even your own personal recordings. basically if it exists in the real world then u can have it as a ringer if you choose to. why anyone would say midis are better than MP3s is quite confusing to me, yea they sound cool if ur the type that likes electronic music, especially on a phone that supports a high number of chords but MP3s are 'real.' as for WAV files, well they just suck.

well i like mp3's cuz im a perfectionist, and midis just sound too weird. they have to be right, and they are not. so im gunna have to go with mp3.

midi is good when you want an instramental. MP3 is good for songs, Wavs take up too much space. midis sound good on most phones, MP3s only sound good on phones with a good speaker. Such as my phone.
