No, it's not illegal, but you're on your own if you goof your phone up. Alot of the modding out there is to enable features that were purposely disabled (so the phone could be sold cheaper, or the other way around, the phones with the feature are more expensive). Therefore, if you mod your phone and you mess it up, the service providers and manufacturers leave you out on your own. So if you mod your phone, you void the warrantee, and they don't have to help you fix it. So, you either get smart and fix it yourself, or buy a new phone. What you're talking about (just deleting preloaded garbage), isn't too dangerous, so go ahead if you want to free up some space. Also, browse the web for programs that will allow you to resample your mp3s. You're going to have to give up bit rate to shrink the files though. If you're only going to have 30-40 second files, I imagine that you're just using them for ringtones. Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools will let you clip your MP3s.

I'm not into hacking my phone so I'm not of much help other than pointing to instructions

    Isn't that illegal?

And what does it mean to invalidate warranties?

How would I do this? I read through that page, but it's extremely complicated

As for the latter.... it will work with midis for certain; use the software at www.anvilstudio.com.... for mp3's you can use a demo version at www.goldwave.com (be sure to download c/p the LAME encoder too) to take the mp3's to mono and lower the quality... but my motorola e815 wouldn't play the ones I pared way down so you may have to experiment....

OK, so basically... My phone sucks. I need a TON more KB space, but since my phone company (Motorola V220) stuck a ton of crappy pictures and sounds on my cell, I don't have a lot of KB space left.

So, that leaves me with this question...

Is there anyway to add storage space on my cell phone, to where I can have more space to store ringtones / sounds and pictures?

    ALSO.......

Is there anyone here who knows how to take a song, shorten it to 30-40 seconds, and make the file fairly small (10 KB, hopefully)?
