OK gang.. Just got my cable this evening, and of course I just *had* to fire up QPST & see if we can see anything. I am happy to say that the cable works fine; at $12 it was a great deal as well. A sticker came on the package with the proper driver for the cable, and after loading that everything came up in QPST just fine. I hope to soon try out a few others, but now its time to begin digging into the system and seeing what is where.....

FWIW, looks like there is a LG.CFG file in the root. This seems to have a directory list in a single line, but oddly enough the /user directory isn't listed.. As I have not bought a new ringtone or anything yet, is it possible this file controls what directories the phone pays attention to?

Also, the cable was originally ordered as compatible with 5200 & 8100... On the cable is a sticker for " LG 3200/7000". This would have me thinking that it must be compatible across the whole range, including my 3300 (I will confirm later today) which is what I expected...

Well ... all accross I have noticed some standardization as far as cables are concerned in phones from Nokia and Samsung... LG still has to learn that ...

Well, I couldn't find anything that says for sure that they both use the same data cable, but I did find where they both use the same car charger.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The question I am pondering is if the new vx3300 uses the same data cable as the 5200.. Its obvious the connectors are the same but would they have wired the pinouts differently, especially for the few needed in the comm cable?

As for the 3300, you can use the cable for the 3200 as it's the same phone basically.

Thats the one I was eyeing. I went ahead and ordered it this afternoon, so I guess we will see how it behaves.

I don't own this one, but it does say that it will work with the 5200 and the 8100.

I've just picked up a VX5200 & VX3300. Both don't seem to have alot of support *yet*, but I've been thinking of getting a data cable. The VZW people seem to think LG was moving towards a single data cable instead of unique accessories for each phone, but as the 5200 was only a few weeks out of the barn they did not have the data cable for it and the 3300 to compare.. FutureDial doesn't even list these yet, and one can only wonder that since the charging units are identical, would the data port be identical? If so then the data cable should be the same also, no?? I've written to FD to ask them if there is currently a datacable out yet for either, and what its number is/will be. But I see at least one site selling a datacable for a good price that they say is for the 5200. Where are you few people who have one getting them from?
