Also Please don't get mad at me for asking, I'm not asking for anyone here to fix my phone.... I read in consumer reports that it is no longer illegal for outside contractors to unlock mobile phones.

O.K. I have been a Nextel customer for about 6 almost 7 years now (I use it at work). Well I'm not very phone savy what so ever.
I bought a boost i450 (Someone I know told me since Boost is owned by Nextel that the phones would work with either service, My Bad). and when I put my Nextel sim into the phone is asked for the special code. which I entered, my phone will now read all of the information off of my sim. However, when I try to make a call it says "Servie Restricted" across the screen.
Does this mean it is double locked and I only unlocked one lock?
If so does anyone know of a reputable place where I can have the other lock removed?

I'm not asking how but I have a question about so called unlocked phones.

I'm currently a Nextel customer and I want to buy a new phone because I'm still on the 5+ year old I1000.

I was looking at the I850 and the I860.

I like the features of the I860 but I do NOT like the color and look of the phone Nextel sells for the I860. I do on the other hand like the look of the Boost Mobile I860 Tattoo limited edition phone.

The only way to get this phone is threw Boost however.

I started looking for into on unlocking these phones which brought me to this forum and I found the sticky thread about how they could not be unlocked however there are dozens of these phones (the I860 Boost Mobile) all over eBay. I would worry about the ad's be false but the people who are selling these phones are like eBay power sellers etc... Some of these people have 5000 to 10,000 positive feedback with like 99.1 to 99.8 % positive which for anyone who deals with eBay a lot knows that’s DAMN!!!! good.

So my question is. If these newer phones are not unlockable, how comes there are dozens and dozens of newer Boost Mobile phones, unlocked for sale on eBay?

I'm considering buying one of the I860 Tattoo’s phones that’s unlocked and I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. They claim it will work on Nextel, Boost or something called Southernlinc. When I commented on reading about them being not unlockable, they said BS...

    Any info? Comments? Thanks.
i have been a boost mobile customer for about 2 yrs now and have had 5 or 6 different phones and have used both nextel and boost phones if i am not mistaken it works the same way with nextel that you may use either companies phone all you have to do is take your sim card out and put it in the other phone because they are a joint company so you shouldnt have to buy an unlocked phone as long as it is a boost or nextel phone

Don't know if you got my last message but I think you were looking for two. I would sell you mine for 125 and 5 shipping for a total of $130 thru pay pal. Mine is new with the plastic coating still on it.

I'm going through the same and I'm totally confused with all this. I want to buy my girls' for christmas a pre-paid boost phone (Motoroal I-830) but the cheapest ones I find on e-bay say NEXTEL un-locked. I was just about to purchase one but I was not sure if it would also work with Boost... So I started searching and that is how I found this forum. So will a Nextel phone work with Boost or not?

Sorry if I posted on the wrong place - I don't want to open a new thread for this...

I bought the boost i830 unlocked for nextel cause I did not like the silver or gold version nextel offered. When I got it it worked fine with my sim card for nextel. Then the screen went blank and I had to send it back to motorola to fix it the sent me a refurb boost(looks brand new) i830 same thing only it is now locked. Called the company who I bought it from and they are supposidly are getting the code to unlock it. I believe I am getting the run around from them on this. I would never do this again and I have sent a letter to the bbb about them. The phone is no more than 4 months old bought it in Aug and I got to use a little as 1 month. Oh the company name is wireless_experts on ebay do not buy from them. I have found software and cables that I would need to buy to try and unlock it myself, but not sure Iwill go that route. Good luck
