Actually it was my mistake for believing a cusomter service rep, they actually did not or can not disable this feature. The CSR had misinformed me on that point.

An update though just last month for December was the first month that i was invoiced correctly...

Unfortunately it displays on Rogers on my Cell Phone (Motorola Razr), so manual is not an option.

My first month my expanded network charges was 50 dollars and second month 80 dollars...

I called Fido and they disabled the roaming capabilities when I asked them do which is great!

I am just wondering why they (Fido Customer Service) never suggested this option to me when I complained about the expanded network charges.

Again thanks for the tip, you have saved me money and grief!!!
They dis-abled your expanded roaming for you...??

I was under the impression that this was not possible.

Does your phone's screen show Fido or Rogers? If it shows Fido, then one way to block the expanded network is to use manual instead of automatic network searching if your phone allows it. That is to prevent it from switching to Rogers network automatically. Depending on how often you travel to those expanded network area, if the roaming charge is less than $5 monthly, I will consider it as a benefit to be able to use the expanded network. Another option I believe is ask Fido to disable roaming completely then you are sure that you will never roam to Rogers or other network. Later if you have to travel out of town, you can call them and enable roaming again.

Hey has anyone figured out how to block out this expanded network... I am being screwed as there is no way to tell if you are ROAMING or not.

The 5 dollar a month option is not available as I am on a unlimited plan, I have called customer service as I was never billed anything additional when I signed up for this plan.

AND if my phone did not work in a certain area I was fine with this, also there is no way to tell that you are on the expanded network.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

To be sure, you better contact Fido and ask them. If you use to be able to receive Fido, then it should be OK. Unless you moved to an area which is not covered by Fido network before, then you may have to pay the extra $5 for the extended network option. Displaying Rogers doesn't mean that you are using the extended network. Check the following link:

i have an older sim card too but it displays both Rogers and Fido at the main menu. i was able to manually select the Fido network 2 weeks ago for about a good 30 minutes, then i got a message (and a loud beep) to tell me to Select a Network! no reception and the only way to get it working again was to turn the phone off and back on again and set the network selection to Automatic. js1662, so what youre saying is that the Fido network only shows up on newer sim cards? that's messed up. i hardly ever use my phone, i dont want to spend an extra $5/month.

If you have used Fido for a long time and have an SIM card that is many years old same as mine, you will see only Rogers. I got exactly the same thing as yours with my T310. I have tried my SIM card in a new Nokia 6020 and it displayed Rogers on the first line and a smaller Fido on a second line. Other newer Fido SIM card from my friend shows Fido on both my T310 and 6020. I asked Fido and they said it is because of the SIM card and it should not affect the usage or performance and they ask me to live with it. You can talk to Fido and see if they say the same thing to you.

Yes my phone does Auto / Manual.. but when I go and look for networks it only shows Rogers..... there is no Fido listed.

I have a Motorola V60

I even phoned Fido.... and ask them to disable this option for me... but was told they can not do it.

If your phone has manual/automatic network selection, set it at manual and select Fido network.

I have now been on Fido network for about 6 months... and signed up on a 2 year agreement.
Now in the mail I got a notice that as of Aug 3 once I leave the Fido footprint and enter Mr Rogers Neighbourhood I iwll be billed 25 cents for each minute.

Is there a way to keep my phone strickly on the fido network...??

Any suggestions...??
