pyro is going the other direction... midi to mp3

you can use a number of programs to accomplish that feat... its the reverse that everyone is hoping to find at the end of the rainbow

can you be any clearer? You make no sense with this statment. the only thing I understood was you wanting people to download goldwave.

Most people, with a bit of practice and time can sequence thier own midi, and your much better off trying that than trying to convert audio files to midi, you will have more fun creating a midi and will have the skill in the future to sequence what ever you want.

You're right in this comment gbaby. The other thread was made in response to this request because a large amount of members were creating new threads asking if it was possible to convert an MP3 tone to a MIDI tone, with it not losing any quality. If poeple want to use both programs or any other programs to create the midi from an mp3, go right ahead.

but, if I'm using Anvil anyway, I can use it to sequence the whole puppy in the same amount of time? I guess it is helpful for those who don't want to listen and pick out a coupla notes - but if you're editing from there, Gbaby, perhaps you oughtta try your hand at sequencing Hidden Content - you already have the software!

Well I had mentioned above that if you use widi and anvil studio a good midi can be produced. Some people are lazy right now and want something extremely direct. Do the extra work and you can make something worth listening to. Ive used these two programs together to create masterpiece after masterpiece. Widi alone might not please you, but stop being lazy and use another program such as anvil studio with it, and you can finally create the possible your looking for.

(On a side note, anvil studio is a program that can change instruments on the midi track and change the tempo of the song. It also can cut parts out of midis, if they are not to your taste. Give it a try)

Im with the "it cant be done properly yet" people, software like that attempts to do it but not successfully.

it is a step in the right direction, but many of the members on here are looking for a program to convert the mp3 or wav file to a MIDI file and have it sound nearly exactly the same. If that happens, great!

Well, GBaby, I wouldn't agree with you that it's "possible" yet.. it's definitely not perfect. Those two files I posted sound vaguely like their counterparts, and are definitely better suited by a sequencer. And Jeanie, I also agree with you that it would sound better/take the same time by sequencing, but I think it's kind of impressive how it separated the bass and guitar lines in the Fall Out Boy song (not sure if you're familiar with the original song, but..) Don't you at least agree it could be a step in the right direction for the future of conversion?

Ok, so what im hearing is that you can sucessfully convert any mp3 tone to a MIDI tone? Can somebody convert the file types? Technically, yes you can. Will the MIDI tone sound the mp3 tone? Not really. IMO, it's not worth it.

Heres what the website you provided said:
Backward conversion from MP3 to MIDI or from Wave file to MIDI is much more complex and usually requires work of a professional musician listening to a record and selecting notes. This work is complicated and diligent.
If you think you're a professional musician and think you can do it, go right ahead and try. All of us here would like to see what you come out with.

Compare these 2 tracks. the first is the original mp3 tone. Both tracks are 10 seconds long. If you think that its worth it ... good for you. Just compare these and see for yourselves.

    mp3 tone: Hidden Content
    midi tone: Hidden Content

In the end, I am going to have to stick to what Ive said plenty of times and what jeaniesing said:
