Well awesome! It sounds perfect doesn't it too, if you edited the sound clip in Audacity right it sounds just as good as the ringtones you download from the pay services.

Well, Let me explain. (i should get a dollar for every person who successfuly does this)

Download Audacity http://audacity.sourceforge.net , Lame MP3 Codec, Latest BitPim http://www.bitpim.org , And a device that connects your phone to the computer. (I bought a BlueTooth USB Adaptor, Easiest and can be picked up at an office max walmart, target, anywhere.)

Open the MP3 you want as your ringtone on audacity. Highlight the 30 seconds you want as your tone with the cursor and crop it from the rest of the song. Move that thirty seconds to the beginning of the timeslot. Use the Cursor again to highlight the 30 seconds you selected and click on effect in the menu bar. Choose "Compressor" and then press OK. Next click Effect and choose "Normailze" and press OK. One more time, click Effect and click "Hard Limiter" and change the dB number to 3.0 and press ok. Next click on file and choose export as MP3. Rename the file and choose a directory to save it. IF you already installed the LAME codec then great. Find the directory you saved it under and point to the "lame_enc.dll" file for audacity to use. and save the MP3. Now if your cell phone is successfully connected to your PC and BITPIM reads it, great. you're ready to go. Open BITPIM and choose the RINGERS tab. While in bit pim open the directory you saved your 30 second tone in. (i created a folder labeled ringers on my desktop to make it easy to transfer) once there, drage the 30 second MP3 file into the ringers section in BITPIM. A window will open asking you to convert the file. Choose 44100 bitrate, 2 channels, and 128kbps and click convert. Once done the bottom portion of The conversion box can be used. Change the Volume option from 0.0dB to 3.0dB and press OK to convert the file. Once done with converting, in BITPIM, click on "data" in the menu bar and choose "Send Phone Data". Make sure only the Ringtone Checkbox is slected and make sure the ADD bubble is selceted. (IT IS VERY IMPORTANT REPLACE ALL IS NOT SELECTED) Press ok and watch the ringtone be transfered to your phone. When it is done transferring you can now use your 30 second clip you edited on your computer as your ringtone. Any trouble, email me [email protected]

I used a usb cable to transfer the files. it is pretty straight forward from there, but let me know if you have any issues(so far i have done this procedure for my vx8100 and vx6100 without a problem), i cannot promise i can answer everything but will try.

I was able to use a program mptrim to cut out portion of mp3 file, then using bitpim, I "added" the song i wanted to and pressed convert and then I did send data to phone, selected ringtone and that is it, nothing else, pretty straight forward, I have had no issues at all doingthis for m vx8100. ALso I never converted the mp3 file at all, the bitpim does that for you and when it shows up in the phone when you read back from bitpim, the file is still a ,mp3 extension.

Hey, i just got an lg 810o from verizon, normally i use smash the tones to send ringtones to my phone for free on my old phones like samsungs n stuff, but with this new phone i am able to recieve and save the new ringrtones but they will be saved as audio files, and i cannot assign them to ringers, and i cannot use them as ringers, it seems that the midi files wont set as ringers, and my phone cannot accept mp3's because i do not have a mini sd card. does anyone know what format the phones ringtones are in, and how to get a song from my computer to the phone as a working ringer? i basically want to get the music on my phone for free, and i dislike get it now.
