OK, I figured it out. You cnahge the .mp3 extension to .mid, not .amr. It should be 16000 mono and it'll work fine. You can use Audacity (freeware) to convert the mp3 to 16000 mono. Definitely sounds better than the converted amr's.

What are you using to convert the files to AMR? Nokia Multimedia converter is available from forum.nokia if that's not what you are using. It contains a setting for bitrate that u can play with to test the files. I finally got my cable for my 6102, so I'm experimenting now.

Try editing your MP3's down to your desired size, then just simply rename them with an amr extension. tone.mp3 > tone.amr. You may have to play around with your mp3 editor to find the best sound settings for your phone's sound. 64kbps mono usually ok.

    Hi all!
This is my second post (please go look at my first one too!) http://cellphoneforums.net/t196961.html
n e way. onto my question. i have a Nokia 3220 and i want to transfer music to iit. i looked in the tones folder and it showed the two file types .mid and .amr . i want to transfer my mp3 files to it andhave them play. but when i converted them to amr, they sounded like crap. is there a way to make them sound like the original, or at least have minimal loss of quality? if not, does my phone support any other types of files?
