Posting what sound card make and model would help

I see.. Okay, try this. Under that tab for MIDI under your multimedia setting look for something that indicates where the midi output is being sent. It might be sending it to a sound source that isn't there. Fool around with those settings.

Also, under the volume setting. There is a seperate fader for midi music. Make sure it's up. If you don't see one go to Options> Properties and click 'MIDI' under 'show following controls'. I'm not positive that those settings are the same in 95, but I know they're all similar in that respect.

Thanks for your reply, John. I can hear .wav sounds, my CD player, etc., so the volume wouldn't be the problem. Under "multimedia" the options include a tab for .midi indicating SOMETHING in my system is aware that .midi files exist, unsure just how old the concept is.

The next time my computer is at the shop, and I care to be without it for a few days, may install the latest WIN program and have them check the sound card for compatibility. I guess I was hoping it would be as easy as clicking an option. I will probably get a new CD player as well, lol!

Sounds like your sound card isn't up to par or a driver is missing. You should be able to see some sort of MIDI controls or settings somewhere under the multimedia section of the control panel. If not then MIDI is not supported. Also, you might have overlooked this: make sure the volume is up under the little speaker in your sys trey.

The first thing I would recommend is updating your OS. Get at least Win 2k. Then try another sound card. If you really want to get into it get a decent keyboard and play all your files through the keyboard. In my case I use some files for production in my studio producing music. When someone needs a backing track I would use a MIDI files and some other software to put it all together.

Hi! I am new to webbuilding. I have not been able to hear .midi sounds on my computer, although I CAN hear .wav sounds. I am running IE5.5, and have WIN95. Can you give me any pointers? Unsure what sound card I have, but if you tell me how, I will look and see. Computer is a PC, handbuilt. Clicking on my "multimedia" section of the Control Panel, I see, "Ad Lib Compatible (OPL2) Driver is active and enabled." The only other quirk this computer has is not being able to read home burned CDs. Any pointers would be appreciated.
