    Call the sp (service provider) what happened is the phone had a lock on it and when you entered the code wrong 3 times it "bricks" it to stop potential theives from stealing phones, once you call the sp they'll ask you for the imei # and check to see if it's been stolen, after that it's pretty easy. Also doesn't matter if the service he used to have is no longer in affect. I.E. canceled terminated etc. Once he pays for the phone it's his.

    I bought a Motorola V180 off a buddy of mine which he had had in service thru Cingular and when I put my SIM from my phone card in it it asked me for security code which I enterd wrong ad now all I get is a contact SP message am I screwed have to go buy new one or can I somehow reprogram it to work off my SIM? Cingular service is turned off to it tried using master reset and master clear options what should my next move be?
