I have a katana and tried a katana II. I use ringtones from funformobile and they all sound good. I search the gallery for qcp or midi tones. I haven't had any problems with that aspect of the phone.

That means it doesn't support the filetype you tried to put on it. I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this, but the only ringtone formats the Katana supports are QCP and MIDI. You'll have to convert your clear, crisp mp3 files into a format that sounds like a scratchy AM radio to use them. Also, the speaker on the Katana isn't very loud, so you have to amplify the file before you convert, usually around 300-400% which creates a lot of distortion and makes most mp3 files unusable as ringtones. The Katana is a pretty nice phone but you're pretty much stuck with the ringtones it came with. Don't bother buying tones from Sprint, they aren't loud enough either... they almost sound like a whisper. I'm using Tone 7, it's loud enough and not as annoying as the other tones that came with the phone... sorry to say this but Sprint screwed us in the ringtone dept. when they released this phone.
