They sent me a new password today and I created my account online. That is done!! ;-)) The DSL is suppose to be up and running tonight too. So, I may give it as shot hooking up.

I plan on taking a quick spin to RI to check on the service. If it is as good as Tmobile I will be very pleased. I do like the bluetooth gismo. Now I have to make some sort of tether for it so I don't lose it.

The next big hurdle is going to be trying to teach a senior citizen, VERY SENIOR, to use this phone. Oye!!! Forget the messages, camera, etc... IF I can get her to call, & answer, without signing up for text, ATTCAST, etc by mistake,,, I will bust out the wine coolers!!

    UFB,,, UN-----------Believable!!

Well, you guys are correct. I got the phone for free. But then, I got my other phones from Tmobile, and Verizon for free and they didn't have this crap on them. It was about three years ago that I got the V60s from Wirefly/Verizon.
OK, I know, times are a changing. And not necessarily for the better either.

I would love to have that phone, the V60s, in a black/white background, or color display. My eyes need the contrast in order for me to see.. I do like my bluetooth gizmo. But, now you have got me on a mission. I need to do some searching. I guess the other upside is that I can take my sim and pop it in the new unbranded phone.

So, I tried to go online this afternoon with ATT to manage/setup my new account, and also to ***** them out. They were to have sent a text message to my phone so that I could log onto the internet account. I never got it. I tried to chat with CUSTSERV but they went home before 5pm EST... GO figure. I still don't have access to the site, and the link they sent me to apply for a new temp password takes me to a Tech answer site on wikipedia!!!

The hell with it. I will have them set it up at the local office. Now I know why ATT only received two stars and Tmobile, and Verizon did better with five. I have a month to figure this out, if not, I am either stuck with ATT, or I will go back to Verizon. One good thing, the phone works in my office. Verizon didn't. I would like to see how this service works in coastal RI.. Verizon was always the pits there. Tmobile, on the other hand, worked great!! Probably one of the few places it was/is superior to Verizon.

    Thanks for the help.

The reason why there are at&t files there that promote going to the online mall is just the same way as any other business, to make profit. Much like when shopping in retail, sales associates ask you if you want to buy some add-ons to your purchase. Plus, those added numbers there in the phonebook are there to help you with accessing your account information, if ever you should need it.

With you having a problem with the at&t protected files all over your phone, well what do you expect with getting a phone from them that you either didn't have to pay that much or nothing at all? It's called a package deal through your service provider. If you were to buy the phone outright unlocked, in its generic version, it would currently cost AT LEAST $200. And if you have a problem with that, please check out other phones currently carried by other service providers...you'll see the same thing. It's going to be worse with Verizon phones because specific firmware is installed to each of the phones that can be sometimes restrictive.

Like xj911 stated, buy an unlocked version of the phone or have your 6555's firmware flashed to the original generic version, if those things bother you so much. You can find online vendors on where to buy, as well as businesses on where to unbrand the phone's firmware. Use a search engine to get more info...

    T,
Feel free to use the phrase! Unsolicited; junk mail, email, voicemails, offers is all spam to me.

Now,, what is an unbranded phone that our other member refers to?

I have sort of calmed down since yesterday,, but I am sure I will get ripping again. Who the hell is ATT to put crap in my address book??? This is NOT acceptable. I want to delete any number that I don't want on the phone, yet they restrict me from doing it. The older phones have it over these.

There's only one cure for getting rid of carrier branded junk...BUY UNBRANDED!

They usually work better, not being hampered with all the carrier junk.

How do I get rid of all of the ATT Mall crap, and related BUY THIS, BUY THAT,, etc,,, junk on my new 6555?? Can it be done?

I only want the menus, and functions to be active that allow me to make phone calls, take pix, and maybe,, MAYBE,, play some tunes on this phone if I ever get bored with life. Other than that, I don't want the PTT function to allow ATT to charge me for activating this feature just because I pressed the wrong button..

I admit, I should have gone with the New Senior Citizen phones that just make phone calls, and that's it.. Or maybe a RAZOR without this junk that crowds the screens on my Nokia.
