If the messages sent to these could be intercepted... Then I guess no one would buy it now or use this feature. It can be used by hackers for profits too, who knows.

Finland-based mobile handset maker Nokia today said it has applied to the Government for its nod to incorporate email services on its high-end phones.

The company today launched a new enterprise phone E75 priced at Rs 26,299 besides announcing the launch of an e-mail platform for its mid and high-end handsets.

Through the launch of the new messaging service Nokia, which is primarily a mobile handset maker, is likely to get into competition with RIMs BlackBerry and Apples iPhone, who offers e-mail services of its own.

Currently, the service would be available on trial basis. Nokia would first introduce the new messaging and e-mail solution on E75 in India, before extending it to other E-series phones.

The company has already applied to Government and we are in the process of getting the clearance," Nokia India Marketing Director Vineet Taneja told reporters here.

Earlier, BlackBerry's maker Research In Motion were asked to stop their services in India due to security concerns raised by the Home Ministry as messages sent through the device could not be intercepted.

However, Taneja added "all the messages sent through the platform could be intercepted."
