Nokia is working on using piezoelectricity and kinetic energy for a cell phone battery that is " contained within a first frame that is coupled to a second frame by one or more piezoelectric elements.”

Unlike the other big guys who are using solar energy as a backup, Nokia has filed a patent for a "Piezoelectric Kinetic Energy Harvester” and could take several years to develop. The battery would have a power controller that collects electrical energy as a result of the phone's usage. This energy is said to partially recharge the phone's battery.
