I had ordered a Samsung Vibrant from Baka to replace my aging HTC Touch, but I was pretty unhappy when I saw the "Hardware Upgrade Fee". I called Baka the next morning and they told me that Bell charges it and I should contact them, they also said that they could waive the charge. I called and spoke to Customer Service and they told me that's the fee for programming the number and nothing could done. I then walked to Bell World and they told me the same thing. So, I've cancelled my order for the new phone and a new three contract including a data plan and when my contract expires in March

I will be looking for a better provider which respects their customers. I think a "Hardware Upgrade Fee" is just a ludicrous thing to do to a customer that is committing to a new 3 year term plus data. If I find a company that shows me loyalty, I will be loyal to them too.

Hey there I had a similar question regarding the Hardware upgrade. I am almost a year into my 3-year contract and was wondering is there any way for me to uograde to a iPhone 4? I am not familiar with Bell's upgrade policy. Also if thats not possible is there any way of me upgrading to a SIM card?

according to my self help support page it said i was eligible for a $100 HUG, this was back in May. Now when I check it it does not give me the amount i am eligible for and shows me phones are all full priced.
I just want a new phone. what is the best way of doing it?

that is true... trust me... if there is one thing I absolutely HATE about bell it's that they lock features on phones. The only phone I've been able to get the unlock codes for was my Razr, and that was through a week of straight fighting with the store and the 1-800 folks..

I then got a new phone upgrade, and same problem, except this time they didn't give me anything despite the fact I know they can do it. I just wanted my phone to be full featured. and I even threatened to cancel my plan and go somewhere else, and they would not do anything. Two months later I got a customer service survey due to all my calling and emailing and such, and I fully explained my anger and disgust with bell and their locking of features. Never heard a thing back, no apology calls, no thanks for your time, nothing.

So yeah, lock codes are pretty much a well kept secret, unless you get that one nice person who just doesn't care. And in my case, I think she was only there for a week or two. lol... Only way to unlock a phone is to hack it, which is easily done, but then good old Bell won't help you when you have any kind of problem with your phone.

I too am eligible for my upgrade now, and am getting all hyped up to go fight again for my phones features. it's like buying a car and having to pay each time you want to use the radio..... or turn signal, or any part for that matter, that's part of the car, you should get it with the car...

Actually, I feel the need to respond again to this post, because it so ludacris. A customer DOES NOT have the option of programming the phone by themselves. Lock codes are proprietary items to the company, and they will not be given out to customers.

If you can get a phone not activated ie: programmed (which is just a few keypad entries) You can always call support and tell them you want to activate your phone. It's a very easy processes.
Phones are not supposed to be sold without having a number programmed into them. Also, even if per say you got a phone that wasn't programmed, how would you program it ? That's not info that's readily available.

you could dial #321 or similar to access your carriers support. Ask for retentions. Tell them you are nearing or at the end of your contract. You would like to have your phone upgraded and have (choose a fee) waived for loyalty. If you are going to go on another 3yr plan, tell them this and you would like the phone for free. You never know. Heck, I got a phone at a discount only for first time activations, though it probably extended my contract, but you will never know if you don't ask. Never take the first deal. Say thank you i'll think about it, hang up and phone right back. You'll get someone else. Go through the whole speal agian. You may get someone in a very good mood and say, sure i'll give it to you free.

Cost for phone is $49, correct. Hardware upgrade fee (billed to your account) is $20, correct.

$35 for "phone activation" is an in-store charge for programming the phone itself. This varies from store to store, so shop around as you may be able to get this fee waived / get it for free, it's up to the store's discression.

I have the chance to resign a 3 year contract and upgrade my phone. I have been told conflicting things by people at Bell World, and I was wondering if anyone here knew the answer.

I want to get the Nokia 6275i and sign back up for 3 years. So far I have been told:

    1) that there is just a $25 charge plus the $49 for the phone
    2) just the $49 for the phone
    3) $49 for the phone, $20 for the hardware switch and $35 for the phone activation

I just wanted to see if anyone has upgraded and how much they paid.

    Thanks!
