Switched from the blackberry bold at AT&T to the blackberry tour at verizon.

I was amazed at how backward the tour is compared to the bold. I've never upgraded and gone backwards in functionality and reliability. The only reason why i switched was because we moved and ATT is worthless in the new house while verizon has all bars.

    On functionality:

1.) I can no longer specify custom ring tone rules. For example, if i only want to have an audible ring from certain callers while the phone is on silent, it wont let me customize. it is either all on silent or not

2.) No WiFi!! My old verizon bbery bold has wifi. Its really critical for large buildings that have bad cell service. Who decided not to include wifi! come on!

    3.) It randomly resets

4.) I have never been able to visit wikipedia. Says that the request entity is too large.

Completely out to sea...RIM is in trouble

I have been following the Tour for awhile now. Two months prior to its announcement to be exact. The following is what I can determine based on extensive research:

    1. The Tour is the fastest CDMA Blackberry to date!

    B. Some users have stated that pressing the BB key and/or the cancel/back key will cause their screen to ripple. This could be a pain but not present on all phones.

    2. The Tour has a very stable build of OS 4.7 (eventually to be updated to version 5)

    3. Sadly, the Tour lacks WiFi (travelers and rural users beware)

    D. Many users have complained about the battery door coming very loose on their Tours after a few days to weeks. This makes the device feel very flimsy and cheap.

    4. Unlike 90% of Verizon phones, for some reason their Blackberries lack EMS and restrict SMS messages to 160 characters! .

On most Verizon non-smart phones, you are able to send SMS messages greater than 160 characters thanks to something called EMS. Enhanced Messaging Service is an adaptation of the Short Message Service that allows users to send and receive small sounds, little images, 160+ characters, as well as a combination of simple media to and from EMS-compliant handsets. EMS is probably my favorite cellular feature. Please do not confuse EMS with MMS. If a message is sent to a phone that is not EMS-capable (non Verizon cell phones), the recipient will still receive the text portion of the message, and also the FIRST 160 characters only. The LG Dare, Voyager, enV, enV2, enV3, EnV Touch, etc etc etc are all EMS capable. Sadly, the Tour is not EMS enabled. So if you're a big texter this may be something to complain to Verizon/RIM about.

This has been a long awaited phone for a lot of berry user's. As stated many times and here, typing was and continues to be a big issue for a lot of us. (the reason my storm sit's on my office desk now).

With the release of this phone, we get the best of both worlds; a keyboard and the screen clarity and OS of the storm.

I haven't found anything worth complaining about with this phone yet. It's isn't a Bold, that's for sure, but it is a vast improvement over the Curve. Keyboard works and feels great.

Now, let's see what happens when the new Storm 2 (Odin) comes out with WiFi and a totally revamped OS and touch screen. (Yes, I will get one of them too....gadget freak, yes, I am).
